Dr. Michael Lewis was born and raised north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated in 2000 with a degree in Science Business. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an active duty Naval Officer and trained to become a Naval Flight Officer. Dr. Lewis served as a Naval Flight Officer on the P-3 Orion aircraft for 11 years when he earned a Navy Dental School scholarship and went on to complete his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2015. Upon graduation, Dr. Lewis was commissioned into the U.S. Navy Dental Corps and received orders to an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program at Naval Station Norfolk Dental Clinic. Following completion of the AEGD program, the Navy moved Dr. Lewis and his family to Naval Dental Center Okinawa in Japan where he served as a general dentist for two years; he and his family were able to experience the wonderful Japanese culture first hand. While in Japan, Dr. Lewis decided to continue his training and specialize in Endodontics. He was selected to attend the Naval Postgraduate Dental School in Bethesda, MD for specialty training in Endodontics, from which he graduated in 2020. Upon graduation, Dr. Lewis considers himself very lucky to have received orders to the Marine Corp Recruit Depot in San Diego where he treated Marine Corps recruits in Boot Camp. He and his family fell in love with San Diego and after his retirement from the Navy in 2023, they decided to make it their permanent home.
Dr. Lewis continues to pursue the highest standards in clinical excellence through constant learning, regularly attending the American Association of Endodontics (AAE) yearly meetings and reading the monthly peer reviewed literature from the Journal of Endodontics. Dr. Lewis’s practice philosophy is to take care of the human being, not just a tooth. While his desire is to preserve every possible tooth, not every person has the same desires or expectations and treatment must be tailored to the individual. Outside of his professional career, Dr. Lewis enjoys spending time with his wife Crystal, his two children, and dogs. He enjoys surfing and being outdoors.
“My goal is to treat all patients as I would want to be treated, and
I strive to provide technically excellent work on a daily basis.”
